Preparation controls

Confirm the landscape, release identity, deployment sequence, access, operational ownership and recovery assumptions before execution begins.

  • Systems, clients, environments and integrations are in scope
  • Transport and deployment order is agreed
  • Production access and support contacts are verified
  • Backups and restore points have named owners
  • Go/no-go criteria and decision authority are documented

Deployment and technical validation

Deployment completion does not prove service readiness. Follow deployment with system-level smoke tests and integration-path validation.

  • Transport or release outcome is independently verified
  • Application health and critical background jobs are checked
  • Interfaces, middleware routes and scheduled transfers are validated
  • Monitoring and alerting are active
  • Exceptions are owned and decision deadlines are visible

Business readiness and closure

Business testing is a timed activity. Business sign-off is a separate decision milestone supported by evidence from testing and reconciliation.

  • Critical business journeys have named validators
  • Financial and operational reconciliation is complete
  • Residual risks are accepted by an authorised decision-maker
  • Hypercare ownership and escalation routes are active
  • The execution record is preserved for the next stage

Is an SAP cutover checklist the same as a cutover plan?

No. A checklist identifies controls. A plan adds accountable owners, dependencies, timings, evidence requirements and executable governance.

Should business validation be a milestone?

Business testing should be a duration-based activity. The resulting business approval or sign-off should normally be a separate zero-duration gate.
